Shingle/gravel beach, nothing sharp though. Very kite friendly texture. Usually plenty of space on the beach to be able to avoid members of the public. They normally stick to the promenade though. Please be courteous to the old folks who often take an interest. In summer you will usually have a decent audience watching your jumps in front of the Hythe Imperial Hotel. Put on a good show!
Not great for newschool stuff. Oldschoolers love this location though once they get to know it. Good kiterace potential too. Do not kite here if you cannot competently bodydrag to get your board. Never crowded.

You can also launch anywhere within a mile east or west of the posted location. Do not stray further west than that. Gunnery range will mince you up. Fortunately this is typically a lot of hard work upwind - you won't get there by accident.
