We are currently experiencing access issues in the National Marine Park of Puerto Morelos. We hope to be able to resolve these issues with the authorities of the Park by the end of March. Suffice to say that there will NO LONGER be kitesurf lessons given within the park boundaries and only LEVEL III certified IKO or PASA CARDHOLDERS will be permitted to kite in the Park. Upon arrival in Puerto Morelos a tourist will need to report to the offices of the National Marine Park and present their kiteboard certification credential, where upon they will be issued a list of guidelines for kiting here and possibly some sort of identifier (bracelet or pennant). In addition, it's possible that a small 20 peso fee for park use may be charged. You may end up having a killer session (with no other kiters around...wonder why?) and NOBODY bothers you. Or, you may be asked by a Park authority to leave. NO MATTER WHAT, NEVER GO past the buoys that mark the snorkeling area by the reef. NEVER approach the boats carrying snorkelers. ALWAYS stay FAR TO THE NORTH of the hotel called `Ojo de Agua` (painted yellow) ALWAYS wrap your lines once you have landed your kite. NEVER kite within 100 meters of the shore...especially on EAST wind days. NEVER, EVER cross the reef out into open ocean because you will seriously piss off the people we are trying to negotiate with. IF all these rules seem like too much to worry about, please accept our invitation to discover many of the other great beaches along the coast of the Yucatan peninsula! Thanx for helping us out in this...remember, you are a tourist who will be here for a few days...we live here and are heartbroken that we can't practice our favorite sport anymore.
